Purpose for Establishment

In order to implement the care and attention to the new immigrants, Taichung City Government has forged an exclusive space for the cultural exchange and study of the new immigrants. "Taichung City New Immigrant Arts Center" was planned to be built on the first floor of the Fengle Sculpture Park General Activity Center at Nantun District, Taichung City, as a meetup place for the new immigrants’ arts and cultural performances, achievement presentation of study or guidance, and multicultural exchange. The Arts Center was completed and opened on July 19, 2014, having arts and cultural study classroom, reading area, social area, children's play area, and service desk to provide consulting services.

Based on the premise of actively assisting new immigrants in adapting to local life smoothly, Civil Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government provides gatherings and exchanges, establishes a support network, enhances a sense of belonging, encourages new immigrants to participate in learning and activities, and assists them in coming out and interacting with everyone through open exchanges, increases their social visibility and breaks the underprivileged stereotype that new immigrants only passively receive support. Hence, Civil Affairs Bureau has also established a volunteer team of new immigrants to assist in the management of the operation of the Center and the promotion of cultural exchange of new immigrants, and to provide new immigrants with service opportunities. The Center is open to the public to visit so as to shorten the distance between new immigrants and citizens, thereby helping fellow countrymen and new immigrants to understand multi-culture, and promoting cultural exchanges.
