Theme of Exhibition 2014: "Introduction to New Immigrants' Native Land Gourmet Food, National Conditions and Exotic Cultural Artifacts".
The first exhibition was planned and arranged by Tunghai University in this city, and it was an exhibition of the introduction to native land gourmet food, national conditions and exotic cultural artifacts of the new immigrants from the top 7 countries (Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines and Korea) with the largest number of foreign new immigrants in the city. Through the introduction, the exhibition has increased fellow countrymen's interest in contacting exotic cultures and displayed the achievement of new immigrants' life adaptation counseling classes held by the Household Registration Offices in various districts of the city, and the work results of "handicraft training" course for the new immigrants.
Theme of Exhibition 2015: "Taiwan's Early Life Utensils and Ancient Farm Tools Combined with New immigrants' Life and Culture"
The theme was Taiwan's early agricultural life tools. Because the Center is located in Nantun District, Taichung City which was an agricultural development area in the early days, there were many blacksmith shops manufacturing agricultural tools among which the plowshare was the most famous, so Nantun District was formerly called Plowshare Shop. The Municipal Wanhe Junior High School collects a large number of old farm tools and utensils used in Taiwan's early life. Combining local resources, the exhibition integrated the introduction of the agricultural culture in the new immigrants' countries of origin. The exhibition period was from February to the end of December 2015. The exhibition enabled the public to understand the differences in agricultural development culture between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries.
Theme of Exhibition 2016: "New Immigrant Culture and Customs".
Taking the top 4 countries—Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand— with the largest number of new immigrants in this city as the theme, the exhibition introduced the traditional customs, history, religion, food and clothing and other culture and cultural artifacts of the new immigrants’ native land for the period commencing on May 1 and ending on December 31. This exhibition event, in addition to presenting gifts such as checking in and clicking the Like button to enter a draw to win tablets and MP4s, also held Taiwanese Hokkien courses for new immigrants. In June and October, new immigrants’ films that had won the special recommendation of the Film Festival and the International Film Festival Award were screened. Details of the event were announced on the official website of the Bureau one after another, and the public and new immigrants were welcome to participate.
Theme of Exhibition 2017: "2017 New Immigrant Culture Festival Exhibition"
With the theme of the new immigrant cultural celebration, combined with an introduction to the culture and religion and an exhibition of exotic celebrations of the top 4 countries (Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand) with the largest number of new immigrants in this city, their cultural connotation, celebration characteristics and customs were understood. All aspects of cultural festivals and cultural artifacts in the native land of the new immigrants were displayed so that the local people could better understand the exotic customs and culture of the new immigrants, showing the harmony between the new immigrants and the local people.
Theme of Exhibition 2018: "2018 New Immigrant Food Culture Exhibition"
The food culture of new immigrants was taken as the main axis of the curation, and the special culture of the new immigrants’ local food in their native land was presented in the exhibition. "Food is the first necessity of the people". No matter what nationality and ethnicity, people need to rely on food to maintain their basic survival. Taking food culture as the curatorial theme, and using food topics that are closest to life to shorten the distance between new immigrants and fellow countrymen, we achieved cultural exchange and integration.
Theme of Exhibition 2019: "2019 New Immigrant Series—Traditional Wedding Culture Exhibition"
A permanent exhibition was set up on the theme of the traditional wedding of the new immigrants for the purpose of letting the public understand the differences between the exotic wedding culture and etiquette and the culture of this country. Relevant supporting activities focused on signature dishes. New immigrants as lecturers analyzed exotic food culture, built a platform for cultural exchange and integration between new immigrants and citizens, and brought a happy sense of belonging. We experienced the beauty of multi-culture.
Theme of Exhibition 2020: "2020 New Immigrant Series—Traditional Musical Instrument Culture Exhibition"
Traditional musical instruments of the new immigrants are taken as the main axis of the curation, and the exhibition presented the characteristic cultures of traditional musical instruments in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and other countries. Through the introduction of unique local musical instruments, the exhibition showed the importance attached to music by various countries and their beliefs in music so as to convey the beauty of multi-culture. During the exhibition period, in addition to the exhibition of exotic traditional musical instruments, courses of new immigrant craftsmanship and gourmet food without borders, various countries’ three-dimensional paper quilling art courses, musical instrument DIY courses and the Mid-Autumn Festival were held successively. It is hoped that through the cultural exhibition and course activities, the cultural exchange and integration connecting Taiwan and the home country of the new immigrants will be strengthened.
Theme of Exhibition 2021: "2021 New Immigrant Series, Your Hometown Is With Me"
Under the main axis focusing on the food, clothing, housing, transportation, and festival life of the four countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, the "comparable things" of the four countries were compared, introduced and explained. It is hoped that by recognizing the similarities and differences, visitors would be able to connect with each other so as to better understand and respect each other. This permanent exhibition was characterized by the representative animals of the Philippine Monkey-eating Eagle, the Vietnamese Tonkin snub-nosed monkey, the Thai elephant, and the Indonesian rhinoceros depicting the cultural characteristics of the four countries, as well as the local Formosan black bear in Taiwan. With lively and lovely anthropomorphic designs, the animal mascots wore the cultural characteristics of various countries, with the imagery of mountains and rivers, representing the new immigrants of Taiwan Island who have taken root and integrated on this land together. During the curatorial period, six themed activities were planned, such as borderless handicraft DIY fun toy, sharing of hometown special gourmet food, dumpling food festival, learning passionate dance with the new immigrants, having a thorough master of drawing hometown characteristics and borderless story house, etc. Exciting content and diverse and interesting topics allow people to experience different cultural connotations during learning.
Theme of Exhibition 2022: "2022 New Immigrant Arts Center Spice Culture Exhibition"
The characteristics and culture of "unique spices from various countries" is presented in the exhibition. The spice exhibits are changed every 3 months, with a total of 48 kinds of spices on display. Yuemei Elementary School, Xinshe Elementary School and Wufeng Elementary School are invited to display their achievements in food and agriculture education in the "Time Corridor" area. A "scenting game area" and a "reading area" are also set up to deepen the impression and experience of visitors to the exhibition. In addition, a cultural experience event (Vietnamese Tet Trung Thu) will be held during the exhibition. It is hoped that through this cultural exhibition and cultural experience event, the cultural exchange and integration of spices connecting Taiwan and the home country of the new immigrants will be strengthened.
