The Taichung City Government strengthened its food safety controls. It maintained high inspection standards by participating in the “2024 Cloud IoT Innovation Awards” competition with the theme “Smart Management and Mobile Inspection - Defending Taichung's Food Safety Network.” It emerged victorious after approximately two months of intense competition among over 40 participating organizations. It won the “Excellence in Application Award,” becoming the only health bureau nationwide to receive an award this year. Chiung-Hui Fu, Director of the Taichung City Office of Food and Drug Safety, accepted the award today (29th) and stated that they will continue to promote smart food safety governance, protect citizens' food safety, and maintain frontline quality control.
Director Fu noted that Taichung City manages and oversees over 95,000 registered food and pharmaceutical businesses, ranking first nationwide. Given the limited inspection workforce available for comprehensive surveys, the city government has implemented mobile smart food safety inspections using three significant strategies: “computerized case management,” “digitalized inspection processes,” and “transparent inspection results” to enhance food safety management. Additionally, they utilize an inspection information system to control all case operation processes, promote tablet-based food safety inspections for real-time data transfer to improve administrative efficiency and make inspection results transparent by publishing them on the “Taichung Food and Drug Safety Smart Cloud” for public access, ensuring food safety and consumer rights.
Health Bureau Director Zi-Zhan Zeng stated that it constantly seeks innovation in executing its duties. Taichung's food safety management achievements are widely recognized, with inspection capacity ranking first nationwide last year. This time, Taichung City's commitment to inspection quality was strictly evaluated by scholars and experts from the Taiwan Cloud IoT Industry Association. This resulted in receiving the Cloud IoT Innovation Award - Excellence in Application Award, representing the highest recognition of the city government's smart food safety governance policies.
The Office of Food and Drug Safety added that to ensure public confidence in food safety, the city government has published all inspection results on the “Taichung Food and Drug Safety Smart Cloud - Food Safety GIS Section” (https://gov.tw/eyJ), allowing the public to access the latest inspection and sampling results. Furthermore, the newly launched “Food and Drug Safety Education Network” (https://gov.tw/NSY) provides diverse and practical content, enabling the public to access the latest food safety information easily.
