Mayor Shiu-Yen Lu of Taichung City actively promotes smart city initiatives. The city's Construction Bureau participated in the 2022 Smart City Innovation Application Award, organized by the Taipei Computer Association, with the Central Park project and won the “Smart Government Domain Innovation Application Award.”At yesterday's (22nd) opening ceremony and award presentation of the “2022 Smart City Exhibition, ” Construction Bureau Director Da-Tian Chen expressed gratitude to the judges and noted that Central Park is a perfect example of integrating technology applications with public infrastructure. He welcomes citizens nationwide to explore Central Park.

Construction Bureau Director Chen pointed out that Central Park, located in the Shuinan Trade and Economic Park in Xitun District, Taichung City, covers approximately 67.34 hectares. Built on the principles of “smart, low-carbon, and innovative, ” it combines an ecological environment with smart control systems. The park differs from traditional parks because it uses central monitoring systems and integrated applications to provide visitors with convenient and safe experiences. With its diverse landscapes and wildlife habitats, it is also known as the “Lungs of Taichung City.”

Director Chen stated that the Construction Bureau actively incorporates technological and smart system integration into engineering construction, innovating services and streamlining maintenance costs—achieving two goals simultaneously. Through these efforts, they hope to develop Taichung into a more comfortable and livable city.

The Construction Bureau explained that the park features various facilities, including a QR-code reporting system for public restrooms, smart parking, climate pole information, smart streetlights, smart irrigation, emergency reporting services, security monitoring, remote mechanical and electrical equipment monitoring, information service network, and a park guide system APP. The park fully utilizes the advantages of IoT digital technology. For instance, smart poles installed around the park incorporate safety monitoring and scenario management systems that can instantly capture license plate images of vehicles mistakenly entering the park and quickly notify security. Through climate information collection and distribution, various facility management, streetlight control, parking management, sensing equipment, and communication functions are installed throughout the vast park, reducing the need for personnel to travel between locations and making recreation safer for visitors.
