As global attention to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) continues to increase, the Taichung City Government Tourism Bureau develops sustainable tourism, creating travel models that comply with environmental protection, green energy, and social responsibility. Recently, Taichung City received the "2024 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories Award" honor and is simultaneously the only city among the six special municipalities to receive a "Superior" rating in the national Taiwan Tourist Shuttle evaluation. Additionally, the Tourism and Travel Bureau has assisted five businesses in obtaining the international GTS Green Travel Label and 57 low-carbon hotel certifications. These achievements demonstrate Taichung's efforts in the field of sustainable tourism. The Tourism and Travel Bureau invites tourists to visit Taichung during the Spring Festival and support low-carbon travel through tourist buses while exploring Taichung's natural scenery.

Tourism and Travel Bureau Director Mei-Hsiu Chen noted that Taichung City joined the Netherlands-based "Green Destinations Foundation" as an international member in 2023, introducing international certification systems. In 2024, through the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival's implementation of sustainability concepts, the city participated in the global Top 100 Destinations Stories competition, standing out among 170 tourism destinations from 32 countries. The award was received on December 11 last year in Punta Arenas, Chile, making Taichung the first and only county or city government in Taiwan to receive this award.

Director Chen added that the Tourism and Travel Bureau organizes briefing sessions, invites local tourism operators to understand international sustainable tourism trends, collaborates with global organizations to hold training courses, and assists tourism industry partners and government colleagues in obtaining international certifications. These efforts have received widespread response and recognition from the industry. This year, 5 Taichung businesses successfully obtained the "2025 GTS Green Travel Label" international certification through the guidance mechanism, further establishing Taichung's professional strength in the field of sustainable tourism, with public-private cooperation jointly enhancing Taichung's visibility in the international green tourism market.

Tourism and Travel Bureau explained that Taichung City is fully expanding tourist bus routes combined with low-carbon travel and designing various themed activities and exclusive itineraries, allowing tourists to explore the sustainable tourism charm of Central Taiwan. The "888 Fengyuan-Houli Line" is the best choice for visiting Taichung during the Lunar New Year, providing access to Lihpao Resort, Yuemei Sugar Factory, and Houli Horse Ranch. Visitors can also go to Chungshe Tourist Flower Market to admire the blooming tulip season, then move to Fengyuan Temple East Night Market in the evening to taste local delicacies and purchase distinctive souvenirs in Fengyuan, known as the hometown of pastries. This route is suitable for family outings. For more information on sustainable tourism, please visit the Taichung Tourism Website (https://travel.taichung.gov.tw/).
