Taichung Motorcycle Per-Fee Road Segments Bound to Auto-Debit Go Paperless - Estimated to Reduce Nearly 860,000 Grams of CO2 Emissions

Reduce Paper to Love the Earth - Taichung Motorcycle Parking Fee Per-Visit Segments Trial Auto-Debit Binding Without Issuing Parking Fee Notifications

Go green while parking! Following last year's well-received paperless monthly parking pass initiative, Taichung City Government will expand the trial implementation of motorcycle auto-debit binding for financial and telecom services starting April 7th. Ticket officers will scan license plates through the integrated ticketing PDA license plate recognition system when parked on motorcycle per-fee parking road segments (NT$20 per daily visit). They will no longer actively issue paper parking fee notifications. The Transportation Bureau stated that over 300,000 motorcycle auto-debit parking fee notifications were issued last year, with paperless implementation reducing nearly 860,000 grams of CO2 emissions. Using one less parking ticket is taking practical action in environmental protection.

The Transportation Bureau Director Chao-Fu Yeh pointed out that Mayor Shiow-Yen Lu vigorously promotes smart applications in parking management to create a convenient and sustainable city. Following last year's complete paperless implementation for public parking monthly pass purchases, Taichung City is expanding with a trial motorcycle auto-debit binding for financial and telecom services, eliminating paper parking fee notifications. Parking officers use integrated ticketing PDA license plate recognition systems to scan plates through PDA, immediately converting license plates to text files and cross-referencing with the system to determine if the vehicle has been ticketed. This eliminates manual license plate input and avoids input error rates. Citizens with auto-debit binding also avoid late payment troubles.

"Love the Earth, support environmental protection, go paperless, and evolve further!" Director Yeh stated that Taichung City provides diverse parking payment services for citizens, including convenience store collection and financial or telecom auto-debit services. In recent years, many citizens have used auto-debit channels, eliminating concerns about expired or forgotten parking tickets, lost or damaged tickets, while reducing paper usage, tree cutting, and carbon emissions. The city government issued over 300,000 motorcycle auto-debit parking fee notifications last year, equivalent to approximately 47,619 A4 sheets. Based on 18 grams of CO2 per A4 sheet, this reduces 857,142 grams of CO2 emissions. Citizens can support energy conservation through parking auto-debit binding while saving time on counter payments.

The Taichung City Parking Management Office reminds citizens who have bound motorcycle financial or telecom auto-debit services that they can check Taichung motorcycle per-fee charging road segment information by visiting the office's website under "Parking-Related Information" and searching for "Taichung Parking Fee Range Segments (Roadside Motorcycles)." Vehicle owners with auto-debit should not mistakenly assume they weren't issued parking fee notices, while those without auto-debit binding will still receive motorcycle parking fee notifications from officers.

The Transportation Bureau encourages citizens to utilize the "Taichung Transportation Network" APP, which provides roadside parking space information and integrates parking fee inquiry/payment and online monthly pass purchase functions. It facilitates credit card, savings account, and mobile payment methods for parking fee queries and payments, avoiding missed parking payments.
