Saving Lives Cannot Wait: Taichung Fire Department Promotes Integration of Fire Rescue and Hospital Data to Shorten Handover Time

To enhance the efficiency of emergency medical services, the Taichung City Government Fire Department is actively promoting digital transformation by fully upgrading the electronic ambulance record system and establishing a data integration mechanism with 22 designated emergency responsibility hospitals across the city. This system has been simultaneously launched since May this year, creating a new seamless digital rescue model connecting fire rescue and medical care.

The Fire Department explained that with this functionality, ambulance personnel can use tablets to record patient information during their duty. When the patient arrives at the hospital, medical staff only need to scan a QR code generated by the emergency department to instantly import the patient’s basic data and vital signs, including name, gender, ID number, residence, blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, blood glucose level, and more. This significantly reduces the risk of manual recording errors and improves the timeliness and accuracy of handover information.

The Fire Department emphasized that the full implementation of electronic records and scan integration not only shortens handover time at the hospital but also greatly enhances the efficiency of emergency procedures. It ensures every critical piece of data is transmitted to the medical side promptly and securely, strengthening continuity of patient care. Currently, all designated emergency responsibility hospitals in Taichung have completed the system setup and integration, demonstrating the success of public-private cooperation. This has established a horizontal information integration platform that enables real-time exchange of rescue data and boosts overall emergency rescue capabilities.

Looking ahead, the Fire Department will continue to optimize the electronic ambulance record system, gradually incorporating more real-time vital sign data, moving toward the goal of intelligent judgment and real-time decision-making in smart rescue. The Fire Department stresses that it will continue to introduce innovative technologies, leading the new direction of intelligent emergency rescue, strengthening Taichung’s emergency medical rescue system, and safeguarding the lives of its citizens.
