Mid-autumn festival is approaching. Mayor Lin Chia-lung and his wife Liao Wan-ru (廖婉如) visited a number of welfare institutions for the disabled to show care and concern for friends with disabilities and help them make moon cake. It is an annual activity on the eve of Mid-Autumn Festival that they have been doing in the past 10 years. For this year, they visited the Shifang Empowerment Center(十方啟能中心) in Daken on September 11 and again helped the disabled to make, bake, and package the moon cake. They also called upon people to buy moon cake from friends with disabilities to show care and concern to the disabled and help them stand on their own feet.

Mayor Lin said, “Sales of moon cake are the most important income for the welfare institutions for the disabled and the shelter workshops. However, the dust explosion incident at the Formosa Fun Coast Water Park has attracted too much donation money. As a result, sales of moon cake have been very slow so far this year. Currently the institutions for the disabled and shelter workshops in Taichung City has sold about 38,000 boxes of moon cake, falling far behind the target of 50,000 boxes. The Shifang Empowerment Center has set a target of 2,000 boxes but has so far sold only 1,000 boxes. I hope people will come up to buy more love moon cake from them.”

Mayoress Liao Wan-ru also said, “Indeed, sales of love moon cake are the most important source of income for friends with disabilities every year. As I have made the cake with them, I can assure you that they make the moon cake step by step with heart and devotion. Food safety is one thing for sure. You know it takes time to prepare the ingredients and bake them. So, come forward and place your order in advance, so that our friends with disabilities can have more time to make good and fresh moon cake for you.”

After making moon cake together with the students through the entire process from dough kneading, stuffing, oven baking and product packaging, Mayor Lin and his wife also enjoyed the moon cake stuffed with bamboo shoots locally produced in Daken. Mayor Lin gave out very high praise by saying, “This moon cake tastes really delicious and you can feel the love when eating it. Come on and buy a couple of boxes."

Chenkun Huang (陳坤煌), Deputy Director-general of Social Affairs Bureau also said, “Every piece of moon cake is made by our friends with disabilities with love and devotion. I hope people from all walks of life can give them more support and encouragement.”

Yang Xiuwen(楊秀文), Chairperson of Best for Women Association (國際蘭馨協會) also led her members to assist the making of moon cake at the Shifang Empowerment Center today. She also ordered several boxes of moon cake that would be given out to underprivileged children in Taichung City. Mayor Lin and his wife were very grateful toward the Best for Women Association for its love and support.
